Cherry Blossoms (Early~Mid April)

The park located in the Fuchu area of Miyazu which is one of the two main Amanohashidate viewing spots.  It is said to be the birthplace of matanozoki, or looking at Amanohashidate upside down through ones legs.  The park can be accessed by lift, cable car, or on foot.  You might even be lucky enough to meet Kasabo, the park`s pinecone mascot character! About 100 cherry blossom trees bloom here every year!

Sakurayama Park is another popular place to see cherry blossoms in Miyazu.  The slope covered in cherry trees on both sides leads up to the park area.

There is a row of cherry blossom trees planted along the hill leading up to Miyazu Junior High School and along the railroad tracks.

  

Kanayadani Teramachi Temples  金屋谷

There are many different temples in the Kanayadani area of Miyazu, Kyoto: Goshinji Temple, Kokushoji Temple, Honmyoji Temple, Myoshoji Temple, just to name a few.  You can see cherry blossoms at many of them!

Pink azaleas cover the mountain slope leading up to the shrine, delighting visitors with their bright color.  At the top of the hill, is the “Sesshu Lookout Point” where a view similar to that painted in the painting “Amanohashidate-zu” (designated national treasure), by the artist Sesshu can be seen.

Number 28 of the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage Sites, approximately 1,500 rhododendrons bloom on the temple grounds every spring.  Nairaiji is accessible by car or mountain bus from Kasamatsu Park.

Sweetbrier (Early~Late May)

In the Shotenkyo area of Amanohashidate, lying on the other side of the rotating bridge or kaisenkyo, there is a patch of sweetbrier.  The sweetbrier are dark pink and 40~50 cm tall. The area is fondly called “the sweetbrier path”.
