Monju Hall ‘Ten-Day Ebisu Festival’

DateJanuary 10 @ 7:00 am - 6:00 pm

The Ten-Day Ebisu Festival at Chionji Temple attracts many visitors seeking business prosperity and academic success through the wisdom of the temple’s Manjusri Bodhisattva. Throughout the day, the temple bustles with numerous worshippers praying for good fortune.
Chionji Temple’s “Tenka Ebisu” festival began in the Edo period. It involves printing subsidiary talismans from a woodblock of Daikokuten (God of Wealth) carved by Kobo Daishi, which are then bestowed upon worshippers.
Today, temple attendants distribute these talismans, folded into small sticks symbolizing fortune and longevity, known as “Fukubō” (Fortune Sticks).
